Buddhism Hinduism Taoism and Confucianism
I was reading the chapters “Daoism”, and “Confucianism” from Stephen Prothero’s book calls God is not one i didn’t feel like i am reading about a religion. I also read about other religions such as Hinduism, Christianity, and all. They did give me feeling like they are religion because they talked about gods, goddesses, rituals, and religious books. But I didn’t see anything in particular in Confucianism and, Taoism that gives me a feeling to consider them as a religion. Rather, they introduce us from different philosophical, and logical views. Such as Taoism teaches and believe in harmony, non –doing is better than doing something such as meditation. I really like their idea, and I think in this busy world everybody should adopt these practices to get relaxed. Almost everybody is frustrated because of job, money problems, and so on.
And on the other hand side Confucianism also shows us ethical and philosophical values. I also feel that these two religions Taoism, and Confucianism also show open doors to apply these ideas. Unlike Hinduism, where they only point out that India’s geography and their religion “Hinduism” is only related to it’s people. And that, all the gods, and goddesses just arrive there because, that particular place and people are special for them.
Stephen Prothero highlights in these two chapters that how Confucianism, and Taoism follows each other. In china they blend different religions such as Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. However, Confucianism is not officially recognized in china.
I think the idea behind this blending is that even though Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism are not as big as Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism, but they do represent logical theories. Unlike other religions do, they don’t need to support their theories from religious books such as Gita, Bible, or Quran. Their theories are practical, so anybody can practice them and get benefits from them.
